How to Measure for a Chandelier
A chandelier can be a great addition to your home. Chandeliers are often hung in dining rooms and entranceways to add a more formal look and feel to the space. They are typically elegant in appearance, although more modern styles are available, and they give off a soft, beautiful light. There are all different types of chandeliers available, such as traditional, tiffany-style and contemporary, but no matter which style you choose, you will need to measure for the chandelier before you can hang it. Use your tape measure to measure the height of the ceiling in the room you plan to hang the chandelier.

Measure the width of your dining room table if you're planning to hang the chandelier in your dining room.

Measure the chandelier you're considering. The length of the chandelier should be approximately 12 inches less than the width of your dining room table.

Measure the width of the room if you are placing the chandelier in an area that does not have a table to help with the measurements. The width of you chandelier should be about 1/6 of the width of the room or area. For smaller areas like entranceways, mini chandeliers are often purchased.

Hang the chandelier 6 1/2 to 7 feet above the floor if you're hanging it in an entranceway. Hang the chandelier about 3 feet above your dining room table if you're hanging it in your dining room. If your dining room or entranceway has very high ceilings, then you should consider hanging the chandelier a few feet higher off the ground.
