How to Change a Company Web Name to Another Name

When changing a company Web address to another, you are essentially changing the domain name.

A merger or buyout involving another business may be two reasons why you would need to change the company name of your website. The company website name is known as the domain name. Domain registrars charge a yearly fee to attach your domain name to your design website. The process of changing your existing company name to another name can take place in less than 48 hours.

Instructions

1. Purchase a domain name for the new website name from a domain registrar. Domain registrars charge between $1.99 and $20 per year. Choose a domain name that is memorable and easy to spell.

2. Write down the name servers for the new domain name. When you purchase your new domain name, you will be issued name servers that will be used with your Web host. An example of a name server is "ns.yournewdomainname.com." Keep a record of any user names and passwords emailed after purchasing your domain name.

3. Log into your Web hosting account to change the name servers. Your Web host is responsible for owning the servers that maintain the content of and the traffic that visits your website. Your Web host should give you a user name and password to access your account. Click on the domain name option in your administrative menu in your Web host account, and click on the option to change the name servers.

4. Remove the old name servers for your previous domain name and replace them with the name servers for your new domain name. Save the changes that are made in your Web host account.

• You may not see the complete conversion of your new domain name for 24 to 48 hours. In some cases, you may see changes in four hours.
