How to Make Your Own Soft Edible Bass Bait

How to Make Your Own Soft Edible Bass Bait thumbnail
Making a bass bait at home proves easy in the kitchen.

Bass fishing not only gives you time to relax at your favorite lake or stream, but it provides you with edible fish with which to feed your family. Catching bass fish with your own soft, edible bait proves simple when you have the right ingredients. Bass fish, like many other types, enjoy potent, smelly baits, which attract them to your hook. Making your own bait at home gives you the ability to make powerful scent to attract a large and meaty bass.

Things You'll Need

  • Beef liver (1 pound)
  • Fish bullion (1/4 cup)
  • Medium saucepan
  • Potato masher
  • Plastic container with lid

Instructions

    • 1

Add the beef liver and fish bullion to a medium saucepan.

    • 2

Add about two cups of water to the pan. Set the stove to a medium heat.

    • 3

Cover the pot and let it cook for about 25 minutes. Stir it with a spoon to keep the bottom from scorching.

    • 4

Reduce the heat to a simmer and remove the lid. Let it simmer for an additional 20 minutes.

    • 5

Turn off the stove and let the contents cool as you mash it by hand with the potato masher. Mash it until the liver absorbs the liquid and turns into a thick, brownish gray paste.

    • 6

Spoon the paste into a plastic container. Secure the lid on it and freeze it until you go fishing. Let it thaw and scoop out small amounts to make bait balls to place on your hooks.
