How to Scan Home Pictures
Taking photographs is a great way to document your memories. However, as time passes, your photographs can become scratched or damaged by handling and storing them. Whether you have a photo scanner or an all-in-one printer with scanning capability, you can easily scan your photographs on your computer. Scanning allows you to turn your tangible pictures into digital images and further preserve your memories.

1
Clean the scanning bed on your all-in-one printer or scanner. Use a soft cloth and a small amount of Windex to clean the glass. Scanners will often scan smudges, dirt and dust that is on top of the scanning bed. Next, gently wipe any dust or dirt from your photographs by using a separate, clean, soft cloth.
-
2
Turn on your printer. Go to "Start," click on "All Programs" and open the scanning software. You can also use "Windows Photo Gallery" to scan your photographs.

-
3
Place your photos face-down on the scanning bed. Align each photograph by using the scanning guidelines on the side of the glass.
-
4
Choose the "Scan Picture" option in your scanning software program and click "Scan." When the process is finished, you will be asked to save the new file. Name the new image file, select a folder and save the image as a JPEG.
-
5
Open the new image and choose to "Edit" the photo. Crop, resize, fix red issues and save each individual photo as a new digital image.
