Instructions

  1. Fresh Rose Petals

    • 1

Open up your bag of fresh rose petals and slip a paper towel inside so it sits between the side of the bag and the rose petals.

    • 2

Flip over the bag and slide a paper towel into the other side of the bag in the same manner. The two paper towels provide insulation from moisture and protect the rose petals from accidental jostling.

    • 3

Seal the bag again and slide it into the refrigerator. Select a flat spot where the rose petals won't be jostled by anyone opening the refrigerator. Some parts of the refrigerator become extra cold so avoid a chilly spot in the refrigerator.

    • 4

Monitor the rose petals for signs they're getting too cold, such as excess condensation. The paper towels will blot up some condensation, but you don't want your rose petals getting too cold. If you observe excess condensation, remove the bag from the refrigerator and store in a cool dark place (like a basement) until you need them.

    Freeze-Dried Rose Petals

    • 5

Locate a place that's clean and dry and has low humidity, like a closet or an interior room. If you live in an area prone to humidity, install an electric dehumidifier in the area you plan to keep the rose petals.

    • 6

Place your rose petals in the box in this room and turn on the dehumidifier if you need one. Leave the rose petals in this room until you need them. With low humidity and a cool storage environment, they can last for months.

    • 7

Remove your freeze dried rose petals from the storage room when you need them. Carefully seal up the bag with the rest of the petals and leave them there. Check on the rose petals periodically for evidence of deterioration. Over time, freeze dried rose petals lighten in hue; eventually they will disintegrate, even with proper storage.
