If you have external speakers connected to your Windows Vista computer or own a laptop with built-in speakers, you don't need to manually adjust the volume on the actual speakers. Windows Vista offers you the option to control the volume of their computer without lifting a finger from the mouse and keyboard. In order to control the volume level of your speakers using Windows Vista, the speakers must be properly connected and powered on.

      Click the "Start" button on the desktop.

      Open the Control Panel in the right column of the Start menu.

      Select "Hardware and Sound."

      Choose the "Adjust system volume" option located under the "Audio Devices and Sound" section of the window.

      Click and hold the slider. Move the cursor to adjust the volume of your computer's speakers. Moving the slider up increases volume, while moving it down decreases volume. Click the "Mute" icon to silence your computer's speakers.
