How to Rewrite Music to a CD

A CD-R will only allow you to write on it once; a CD-RW will allow you to rewrite information.

It is possible to rewrite music onto a CD, but only if you have a CD-RW and not just a CD or CD-R. The CD-RW is a rewritable disc that allows you to burn information onto it, erase information from it and then burn information back onto it. When you burn a regular CD-R, your disc-burning software closes off the disc so that no more information can be added or taken away from the disc unless it becomes damaged. This doesn't happen with CD-RWs.

Things You'll Need

• CD burner
• CD-RW

Instructions

1. Take a CD-RW on which you have previously burned music files and insert it into your CD-RW disc drive--that is your CD burner.

2. Open up your burning software. Examples of burning software include Nero, Roxio or Clone CD. This software can be opened by clicking "Start > All Programs" and then finding the program and clicking on it twice.

3. Follow the steps for burning information onto the CD as if you were going to burn a brand new CD. Some burning software programs allow you to choose which files you want to keep on the CD-RW and which files you want to remove.

4. Tell the software to burn the CD and whatever music you selected to keep will stay, whatever music you selected to add will get added to the CD and whatever music you selected to eliminate will be written over.
