How to Paint Pillows
A creative slumber party activity for your tween daughter is to have her and her friends make their own personalized pillowcases. Not only will this exercise creative muscles, but it will also give the girls a memento from their fun night. Painting pillowcases is an activity that can be completed with special fabric paints found in most craft stores. Fabric paint will not wash off the pillowcase as regular paints might, giving the girls the freedom to keep any pillow design and display it on their beds.

Instructions

1
Cut a piece of cardboard so that it is nearly the same size as the pillowcase. Slip the pillowcase over the cardboard sheet, which will keep the paint from leaking through to the opposite side of the fabric.
-
2
Spread the fabric paint over a foam plate. Lightly coat one side of a sponge shape with paint, then press it gently over the pillowcase fabric. This transfers the shape to the pillowcase.

3
Affix a pattern or letter stencil to the pillowcase with masking tape. Dab a layer of paint over the stencil with a foam brush, then keep adding layers until the you fully cover the stencil. Remove the stencil to reveal the design.
-
4
Draw a picture or design on the pillowcase with a fabric marker. Then, paint inside the lines with a small paintbrush. Let the paint dry, then trace around the edges with a black fabric marker to darken the original line.
-
5
Paint free-form designs, such as flowers, polka dots or even portraits of friends, using regular paintbrushes.
-
6
Write messages with fabric squeeze paint, which allows you to paint in a very thin line. This will also give the pillowcase a three-dimensional look.
-
7
Allow the pillowcase to completely dry, then remove the cardboard sheet. Slip the pillowcase over the pillow to display the design.
