How to Uninstall PGP

How to Uninstall PGP thumbnail
Uninstall the PGP software from your computer.

Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) provides encryption for your private messages. You can encrypt messages in email or posted on forums. The public key you have on your computer is used to send your messages and your personal, private key decrypts the message. If you no longer need the PGP service, you can remove it from your system. This frees up hard drive space and memory resources.

Instructions

    • 1

Decrypt your drive before uninstalling the software. PGP allows you to encrypt your entire hard drive. If you chose this option, open the PGP software and click "Decrypt Drive." When the process finishes, close PGP.

    • 2

Click the Windows "Start" button and then click "Control Panel." In the opened window, click the "Uninstall a program" in the "Programs" section of the Control Panel.

    • 3

Click the "PGP Desktop" icon in the list of programs installed on your machine. Click the "Uninstall" button. A confirmation window displays. Click "Yes" to verify that you want to remove the software.

    • 4

Click "Yes" to reboot your computer. Uninstalling PGP removes several files integrated into your system, so a reboot is necessary for the changes to take effect.
