  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Steam cleaner
  • Mild detergent or soap
  • Dusting solution
  • Soft dust cloth
  • Allergen-impenetrable covers for mattress and pillows

      In the bedroom, strip linens from bed and wash in water that is at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Put allergen-impenetrable covers on your pillows and mattress.

      Remove mattress and place outside in a sunny area for at least one hour to kill mites. Bring mattress back into house and vacuum thoroughly.

      Cover mattress with allergen-impenetrable covers and make up bed with fresh sheets. Use impenetrable covers on pillows as well before applying pillowcases.

      Wipe down all surfaces in the house with dust solution and damp, soft cloth.

      Vacuum furniture and carpet, then use a steam cleaner on carpets to clean and sterilize more thoroughly.

      Remove curtains and blinds from windows, and wash both. Wash curtains in water that is 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Soak blinds in bathtub in a solution of mild soap and water. Allow both to air-dry outside in a sunny area before returning to windows.
