How to Install MSN Messenger on Mobile

Use Windows Live for Mobile on your phone.

The Microsoft Windows Live Messenger application, formerly known as MSN Messenger, has a web-based free instant messaging version for mobile phones called Windows Live for Mobile. To install this application, you simply access the Windows Live for Mobile webpage on your mobile phone. No additional downloads or installations are required; all you need is a valid Windows Live ID. In addition to Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live for Mobile has features such as integration with text and multimedia messaging, as well as email through the mobile platform.

Instructions

1. Open a browser window and go to the Windows Live for Mobile website (see Resources).

2. Scroll to the right panel of the page and click the "Get It Now" button under the "Windows Live for Mobile" heading. An input form will open.

3. Enter the mobile number of the device on which the application will be installed.

4. Check the checkbox next to the age verification statement. You must certify that you are 13 years of age or older, and that you are the responsible party for the cell phone account.

5. Click the "Send" button. A message with the Windows Live for Mobile link will be sent to your mobile device.

6. Click the link to open Windows Live for Mobile in your phone's browser. The Windows Live for Mobile page will prompt you for a Windows Live ID. If you do not have one, click the "Get Windows Live ID" link to open a new account.

7. Log on to the Windows Live for Mobile page by entering your Windows Live ID and password. Click "Sign In." The Windows Live for Mobile personal profile and homepage will open.

8. Click the "Messenger" link on the top left of the personal page. Windows Live for Mobile Messenger will open and a verification of the account name will appear.

9. Click the "Go" button to open Messenger. The Messenger Instant Message application will open and a search box will be displayed. Under the search box, a series of actions will be listed.

10. Click "Add Contact" to add a chat contact and begin communicating with another user.

11. Click the "Sign Out" button to sign out and close the Messenger application.

Tips & Warnings

• When your mobile device has the Messenger application open, a ribbon with the word "Messenger" will appear across the device's screen.
