How to Type French Accents in Windows
At first glance, a standard American keyboard doesn't seem to contain any of the accents necessary for typing French, but by using the "Alt" key and a simple series of numbers, all French accents can be created in any Windows application.

1
Set the number lock, or "Num Lock," on your keyboard number pad for both desktop and laptop computers. The only way for the "Alt" codes to work is when the number lock is set.
-
2
Open the application of choice, and type all letters of the French word previous to the accented letter. For example, an informal way to say hello in France is allô. Type a-l-l.
