How to Install Surround Sound on a Philips HTS3544

The Phillips HTS3544 is a 5.1 surround sound system, meaning that it has five speakers and one subwoofer. The system is controlled using the included receiver unit. Phillips makes installation easy by labeling each speaker as to where they are supposed to go and color coding the cables from the speakers to match the colors on the back of the receiver. Phillips also provides a variety of ways you can connect the receiver unit, which has a built-in DVD player to a TV.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the speakers in the appropriate place. Place the front speakers go to the right and left of the television, but slightly turned towards the area where you will sit to watch TV (the listening area). Place the rear speakers behind the listening area on either side. Point these speakers towards the listening area as well. Place the center speaker either above or below the center of the television. Place the subwoofer at least a meter away from the TV--if possible, in a corner of the room.

    • 2

Place the receiver in a convenient point where all the speakers and the TV can connect to it.

    • 3

Connect the speakers into the receiver using the color coding on the connectors of the speaker wires and the jacks on the back of the receiver.

    • 4

Connect a video cable from the receiver to the TV. Connect either a yellow RCA; S-video; red, green and blue component; or HDMI (in order of ascending quality) cable from the back of the receiver to an available input on the TV. Your TV may not have all of these connectors. Use the best available cable.

    • 5

Connect a red and white RCA audio cable from the "Speaker Out" jacks on the back of the TV to the "Audio In" jacks on the back of the receiver.
