How to Print iPhoto Cards

Greeting cards that are created on an Apple computer are made using the iPhoto software. Apple, however, requires you to buy a print instead of printing the card out on your printer. When you use the iPhoto software to create a greeting card, you can print by transferring the information for the greeting card to a third-party image editor. Each side of the card will then need to be printed.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Create the Card

    • 1

Open iPhoto and then go into the photo library. Select the photo that you want to use for the greeting card.

    • 2

Click the “Card” option. Select the “Greeting Card” option from the menu that is displayed. Select a theme for the card to continue.

    • 3

Make changes and add text to the greeting card. Add a new background, if needed, or include a caption for the cover picture.

    • 4

Press "Command" + "P" to display the print dialog box. Click the “PDF” button or menu and select the “Save PDF to iPhoto” option. The program will then import the photos you chose into iPhoto.

    • 5

Select the “New Album” option and enter a name for the photos. Click the “Continue” button and the photos will be imported into iPhoto.

    Prepare and Print Card Sides

    • 6

Open a third-party image editor by clicking the icon on the desktop. A blank letter-sized template will be needed that has a resolution of at least 200 dpi.

    • 7

Find the greeting card's photo side file on your system. Open the file with the image editor. Copy the image and then paste it into the blank letter-sized template.

    • 8

Create a new blank letter-sized template. Find and open the greeting card's text side in the image editor. Copy the image and then paste it into the new blank template.

    • 9

Insert a piece of card stock into the printer tray. Print the photo image from the image editor. Remove the paper from the print tray and then flip the card stock paper end-over-end. Place the card stock paper back in the printer tray. Print the text side image from the image editor.

    • 10

Remove the printed card from the printer and trim off any excess paper with scissors.
