Form 990 Schedule C Instructions
Form 990 Schedule C is used by businesses that are nonprofit and tax-exempt. This portion of Internal Revenue Service Form 990 is strictly informational and is filed every year. Because nonprofit and tax-exempt companies do not pay income taxes, the 990 simply takes the information and saves it. Schedule C in particular records any company political and lobbying activities.

1
Enter in the name of your political organization as well as the EIN, or employer identification number.
-
2
Calculate the amount of money that your organization has spent on political activities. Calculate how many hours that volunteers have committed to the campaign as well. This information will be listed in Part I-A of the form.
-
-
3
Fill out the information requested in part I-B only if the organization has been given exempt, or nonprofit, status. If it has not, move on to Section I-C. I-B requires that you calculate how much tax the organization has paid out this year, in the form of excise taxes incurred by the organization itself or its managers. Part I-C asks for amounts that the organization has contributed to other organizations, including those that are exempt and those that are not. Gather all the names of these organizations as well as their EINs.
-
4
Write the amounts that your organization has given to lobbying. If your group is part of an affiliation, this section will require that you know amounts for your part of the affiliation as well as the entire group.
-
5
Fill out previous four years worth of information on lobbying amounts received and expenditures.
-
6
Look over Part 3 and Part 4 to see if your organization needs to fill these sections out. Part 3 is any carryover from previous years that you will need to report. Part 4 is any supplemental information that you need to add to the form.
-
7
Mail your completed form by tax deadline, April 15.
