How to Make a Camouflage Hunting Blind

How to Make a Camouflage Hunting Blind thumbnail
A good blind will allow the geese to come in unprepared.

The geese are flying. But no matter how good your calls sound or how realistic your field decoys appear, the geese won't come anywhere near you. And perhaps you are standing out in the middle of the field or trying to hide behind a rock or in a small patch of weeds. The solution to concealment and the way to get geese to take a better look at what you have to offer is to build a small camouflage field blind. Making one is neither expensive nor difficult.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase 50 feet of 1/2-inch electrical conduit. Buy four pieces because conduit generally comes in 10-foot sections. Find electrical conduit at your local hardware store.

    • 2

Cut down the conduit using your hack saw. If you have a table saw or circular saw with a metal-cutting blade, use it to save time and energy. End up with six 5-foot pieces for the stand-up posts and two 8-foot pieces for the side supports.

    • 3

Paint the conduit with camo colors. Buy spray paint specifically designed for camouflage or purchase regular flat spray paint in brown or green.

    • 4

Bring your pieces of conduit along with your rubber bands out to the field.

    • 5

Space two 6-foot pieces of conduit apart from each other on the ground and bring them together at their horizontal meeting point.

    • 6

Strap the two pieces of conduit together where they meet, using a rubber band. You should have a wedge shape coming off the ground. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 with the other four pieces of 6-foot conduit.

    • 7

Take one of your two 8-foot pieces of conduit and slide three rubber bands on to it. Use these to connect to one side of your blind. Use one on the end of the 8-foot pieces to connect to one side of your wedge, one for the middle angle, and one on the opposite end. Repeat on the other side of the wedge with the other 8-foot piece of conduit.

    • 8

Add any weeds that you can find in the area by securing them to the areas where you have rubber bands. Match the color of the field you are in.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have weeds, use a sheet or screen and paint it with camouflage spray paint that matches the color of the field you are going to be hunting in.

  • To increase stability, dig the 6-foot pieces of conduit in an inch or two where they meet the ground in order.

  • Check your blind for stability so that it will not collapse just as the geese are coming in or you're about to shoot.
