1
Cut 5 supporting panels from your cardboard. You can alter the dimensions of your panels to create any sized bag that you like; to follow the model described here, cut 2 main panels that are 7 inches wide by 5 inches tall, two side panels that are 3 inches wide by 7 inches tall, and one bottom panel that is 7 inches long by 3 inches wide.
-
2
Cover each cardboard panel entirely with duct tape. You may use one solid color to cover the panels, or create a striped or check effect by alternating or weaving different colors as you go. Apply each piece of duct tape individually, starting at the edges and working toward the center of the panel. Use your hand or the flat edge of a ruler to press against each piece of tape to create a smooth surface free from underlying air bubbles.

Attach the bottom panel to the front and back panels by laying the main panels on either side of the bottom panel and taping each side to the bottom. You can reinforce the bottom panel by placing several strips of duct tape perpendicularly across all three panels. After taping, fold the two main panels upward. Line up one smaller side panel at a time with both of the main panels and the bottom. Tape each side panel into place.

4
Cut two strips of duct tape of equal lengths for the handle or strap. For a short hand-held handle, you will need approximately 14-inch strips. For a longer shoulder handle, cut approximately 3-foot strips. Place one strip of tape on top of the other with the sticky sides facing each other. Tape one end of your handle to one of the small sides of your bag. Tape the other end of your strap to the opposite side of the bag. Reinforce the straps for added support by adding a staple through each end of the strap and the side of the purse. Hide the staple by wrapping an additional strip of tape on the inner and outer edges of the purse.
