How to Remove the Trojan Win32.Renos

The Win32/Renos--sometimes referred to as Win32.Renos, Win32/Renos.gen or Win32/Renos.XX ("XX" represents a selection of letters)--is a trojan that downloads other spyware, such as SpySheriff or SpyDawn. Most of the software and spyware that Win32/Renos downloads is rogue anti-spyware, which can demand payment for computer cleaning. Microsoft says that "manual removal is not recommended for this threat" due to its complex infection methods. You can remove the Win32/Renos trojan with various anti-spyware or anti-virus software.

Instructions

Microsoft Security Essentials (Freeware)

1. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials (see Resources). Leaving default installation options selected will automatically launch the application after setup is complete.

2. Click "Full" under "Scan Options," and then click "Scan Now." Microsoft Security Essentials will then scan your computer for infections.

3. Click "Clean Computer" once the program has detected Win32/Renos, to remove the infection (and any others that are on your system).

4. Restart your computer to fully remove Win32/Renos from your system.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Shareware)

1. Download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (see Resources). Leave all default installation instructions enabled so that the program downloads all critical updates, and then launches the program.

2. Click "Perform Full Scan," to enable a complete system scan, and then click "Scan." A full scan is recommended every few weeks or every month, with quicker scans recommended every few days or every week.

3. Click "OK" once the Win32/Renos error (and others) has been discovered. Click "Remove Selected" to clean your computer, and then restart your computer to remove all traces of the infection.

Spyware Terminator (Freeware)

1. Download and install Spyware Terminator (see Resources). Double-click the desktop icon to launch the software after installation is complete.

2. Click "Spyware Scan" and then "Scan." Click "Full Spyware Scan" and then "Scan Now" to begin the spyware scan.

3. Click "Quarantine" and then "Fix" once the program detects your threats to remove Win32/Renos and all other spyware that infected your computer.
