Open a Web browser and navigate to the HP customer care website using the Resource link at the end of the article. Type "Deskjet 3550" in the search box near the top of the window and press "Enter." This brings you to the main support page for the Deskjet 3550.

Click the blue "Software & Driver Downloads" link near the top of the window.

Click the drop-down menu under "Select your operating system," and click the version of Windows or Mac OS running on your system. You can also select the Linux operating system. Click the blue "Next" button.

Click the plus sign next to "Driver" in the window that appears, and then click the "Download" button next to "HP DeskJet Full Feature Software and Driver" or "HP Deskjet Basic Software and Driver." You may not have both selections available for all operating systems. When prompted to choose a download location, select the desktop.

Double-click the file when the download is complete. For example, if you selected the basic driver for Windows XP, the file name is "3500_enu_win2k_xpinfu." When the archive extraction is complete, a new window opens automatically showing the contents of the driver folder.

Double-click the file with the extension EXE if you downloaded the full feature software to begin the installation. If you downloaded the basic driver, right-click the file with the extension INF, and then click "Install."
