Windows Live Messenger is instant messaging software provided by Microsoft. While you may use Windows Live Messenger to send instant messages to other contacts online, you can also send emails and SMS text messages to your contacts. It takes little time to open and type a text message to send on Windows Live Messenger.

Instructions

      Sign in to Windows Live Messenger and click the "Show menu" button located under the e-mail icon.

      Hover over "Actions" when the menu opens. You can send messages, start a webcam or play a game here.

      Hover over "Send other" and then click "Send a message to a mobile device."

      Click "OK" when a window pops up saying the recipient of your SMS message may be charged.

      Type the text message in the form that opens. Your message can be up to 140 characters long.

      Press "Enter" when you finish typing the message. The message will be sent to your contact.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you haven't entered a cell phone number for your contacts, you can do so by right-clicking over a contact and selecting "Enter a mobile number" from the menu that opens.
