How to Set Up Bike Rollers

Bike rollers are a piece of exercise equipment that allows a cyclist to ride and train in a stationary position. Bike rollers, or "rollers" for short, employ a trio of rotating drums attached to a frame. The bicycle is placed atop the drums, and the cyclist pedals continuously to keep the bicycle upright as the wheels and drums rotate in opposing directions. Proper setup ensures a safe and effective ride.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfold the rollers. A rubber cable will connect the middle drum to the front drum. The cable must pass over the grooves in each drum.

    • 2

Place the bicycle atop the rollers with the rear wheel on the back two rollers and the front wheel on the single front roller. Observe the position of the front axle with respect to the front drum. An invisible line from the axle to the drum will fall just behind the center of the drum.

    • 3

Adjust the front drum as needed. To accommodate various bicycle lengths, the frame has multiple slots where the drum can be placed. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the nuts from both sides of the drum, and reposition the drum. Replace and tighten the nuts.

    • 4

Remove the bicycle from atop the rollers. Place a level alternately along both sides of the bike rollers frame, and check whether the frame is even by observing the position of the bubble in the level. Bike rollers contain multiple adjustable feet. On an even floor, these feet would be adjusted to identical height.

    • 5

Adjust the height of the feet as needed. Use the crescent wrench to loosen the locknut where the foot enters the bike rollers frame. Twist the foot in or out to adjust the height.

    • 6

Use the level to check the progress of the adjustment. Once adjustment is complete, tighten any locknuts that were loosened.
