How to Stop Car Rust Specks
Cars are expensive investments that are constantly exposed to destructive elements, such as crashes, theft and rust. Rocks, road salt, rain, sea spray and other elements cause rust specks to develop on cars. Rust forms when the bare metal on a car is exposed, allowing rust to continue to spread until holes form in a car's metal frame. Corrosion ruins a car's appearance and drastically depreciates the car's resale value. Remove rust specks on a car promptly, with the proper materials.
Things You'll Need

- Small screwdriver
- Rag
- Mineral spirits
- Rust paint
- Touch up brush
- Garden hose
Instructions

1
Wrap 220-grade sandpaper around the tip of a small screwdriver. This will allow you to treat tiny rust specks without damaging the paint surrounding the speck.
-
2
Rub the tip of the screwdriver over the rust speck. Continue sanding the rusty speck until bare metal is exposed.
-
-
3
Dampen a rag with mineral spirits. Rub the dampened rag over the exposed metal to remove dirt and debris.
-
4
Apply a dab of rust paint to the exposed metal, using a touch up brush. Only fill in the nick with paint, as painting the surrounding surface will make the touch up more noticeable. Rust paint prevents rust for a long time.
-
5
Allow the rust paint to dry, according to the manufacturer's directions. Repeat the entire process on any remaining rust specks on the car.
-
6
Spray the car's underside with a garden hose at least once a month to protect the car from further corrosion. Frequently inspect the entire car for rust and treat any rust spots promptly.
