Instructions

    • 1

Turn the water valve below the toilet clockwise to shut it off. Press and hold the flush lever for approximately 10 seconds to drain any remaining water out of the toilet tank. Lift the cover off the tank and set it aside.

    • 2

Locate the toilet flush lever and unhook the chain attached to the lever. Reach into the toilet tank and unhook the rubber toilet flapper. The flapper covers the drain valve. Note that different models of toilets have small differences in how the flapper connects to the flash valve.

    • 3

Replace the old flapper with a new flapper, specifically designed for your model of toilet, by following the removal method in reverse. Snap the tabs or connectors into place and ensure that nothing prevents the flapper from properly closing.

    • 4

Pull up the chain and connect it to the toilet flush lever. Pull the toilet flush lever and ensure that the flapper opens and closes completely. Trim the top of the chain with wire clippers if it is too long and the toilet flush lever does not properly lift the flapper.

    • 5

Turn the water back on by twisting the water valve below the toilet counter-clockwise. Wait for the tank to fill with water and then open the toilet bowl and check for leaks. Flush the toilet and inspect your work. Ensure that the flapper opens and closes properly. Replace the toilet tank cover.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use a wet/dry vacuum to remove any traces of water so that the toilet tank is dry when you are working.
