How Do I Wear the German Armed Proficiency Badge?
The German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (Das Abzeichen fuer Leistungen im Truppendienst) is one of the most prestigious foreign awards that can be worn on a U.S. Army uniform. According to the Texas Christian University ROTC detachment, Horned Frog Battalion, recipients are required to meet a rigorous set of physical fitness standards, pass a basic marksmanship test and hold combat lifesaver certification. It is an honor for foreign soldiers to receive the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. The badge is awarded by representatives of the German Army after they observe the required tests. It is an award to be worn with care and pride on the U.S. Army dress uniform.

- Ribbon bar
- Fabric chalk

Obtain the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency by completing the required tests under the supervision of an authorized representative of the German Army.

Lay the United States Army dress uniform jacket front side up on a flat surface. Smooth any wrinkles, especially around the pockets.

Detach the clasps on the ribbon bar. Exercise caution, as removing these clasps will expose sharp points.

Slide the badge onto the rail of the ribbon bar. Ensure it is flush against any other ribbons worn on the same ribbon bar.

If male, measure 1/2 inch above the right pocket flap. If female, measure 1/2 inch above the nameplate. If male or female and unit awards are worn, then measure 1/2 inch above the unit awards.

Mark the 1/2-inch point with the fabric chalk.

Pin the ribbon bar to the uniform using the fabric chalk mark as a guide. Be sure the ribbon bar is level and parallel to the nearest pocket flap or other ribbon bar. Re-measure with the ruler if necessary and adjust as needed.

Reattach the clasps to the ribbon bar, covering the sharp points. Tug gently to ensure the ribbon bar will not fall off.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure wear of the badge is authorized by the Department of the Army per Army Regulation 600-8-22.

Do not wear the badge even if awarded unless another United States medal or service ribbon is worn per Army regulations.
