How to Resize Photos for a Web Upload
If you like to take photos, chances are that you will want to share them on the Internet. Depending on the type of camera that you have and the settings that you use to take pictures, you may need to resize them before uploading them. Large image files can be time consuming to upload and to view online, especially for people who still use dial-up Internet. If you make the images smaller, they will also take up less space on the server which is important if put them on your website and you pay for hosting.

Launch a photo editing program. You can find many free photo editing programs online or you may already have one installed on your computer. Popular free programs include GIMP and Windows Live Photo Gallery. You might have Microsoft Picture Manager installed on your computer if you have Microsoft Office. You can also use paid programs like Adobe Photoshop or Elements.

Resize the photo. All photo editing programs have an option to resize pictures. Often this is located under the Image, Edit or Picture menus. When you select "resize," a new dialog box will open and you can select the size that you want to change the image to. A popular size for the Internet is 800 x 600.

4
Save the image as another file. So that you don't alter your original image, choose "Save as" under the File menu. This allows you to save your resized image as a new file. Choose JPEG as the file type and you will also have a chance to select the quality of the file. This will range from low to highest (or best). The better the quality, the larger the file will be. Enter a new name for your file and click "OK" or "Save."
