How to Register a Website Address in Ireland

How to Register a Website Address in Ireland thumbnail
You can register a Web address in Ireland on your own.

If you are in Ireland and want to register a domain name or website address, you may not know where to turn. In Ireland, registering a domain name is not all that different from registering your own domain name in the United States. The main difference is that Ireland has its own domain registrars, which are the companies that actually sell the domain names. When you register a website address or domain, you do so through a domain registrar.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick an Irish domain name registrar to register your Web address. You can pick one by lowest price or any other factor that is important to you. Some registrars include Always Amber, Irish Domains Ltd., Register.ie and Register 365. As of July 2010, Register365 is the leading domain name provider in Ireland.

    • 2

Look on the ICANN website (see Resources) to make sure that the domain registrar you have selected is accredited with ICANN. ICANN, which stands for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, is the organization that manages the domain name system.

    • 3

Enter in the domain name that you want for your website address on the domain registrar's website you have chosen. If the domain is not already registered, you will be able to purchase the domain name. Already registered domain names typically say "Registered" and those not registered will say either "Available" or "Pre-order."

Put a check mark in the box by the domain you want to buy and proceed to the checkout. You will need to enter in your credit card and billing information to purchase the domain name, which registers that website address in your name.
