How to Upload a Web Page to a Server
In order for a website to go live where individuals can see your complete Web page, it must be uploaded to a server. The server you are uploading your site to is usually your Web host. A Web host maintains multiple servers to handle the traffic and content for your site. You should already have all of the files and images saved and stored on your computer so they can be properly uploaded to your host's server.

Get a free or paid FTP software service. FTP (file transfer protocol) accesses your Web host and acts as an intermediary by uploading information from your computer to the Web host's directory for your site to go live.

Open the FTP software and click either "Upload files" or "Log in." You will be asked for the user name and password of your Web host account. When you initially purchased Web hosting, you were emailed a user name and password to access your account. You will see the folders on your Web hosting server once you successfully log in.

Open the folder on your Web host server where the main website will be located. Most Web hosts save your completed website to the public_HTML or index.HTML folder.

Access the folders where your website files are located on your computer within the FTP software. Some FTP software will automatically show you a directory of all your files stored on your computer's main hard drive.

Drag and drop the files from your computer into the public_HTML or Index.html folder of your Web host server. Depending on the size of the files and your Internet connection, the process may take several hours.

Log out of your FTP account and visit your Web page to see if the files have successfully uploaded and the Web page looks the way it was designed from your computer.

Tips & Warnings
If possible, use a high-speed Internet connection like cable or DSL to use FTP software. Dial-up is not only slow, but if it interrupts it can cause your website to function improperly or not upload at all.
