How to Sync DVD Movies With an iPod
Putting your DVD videos on your iPod lets you watch them almost anywhere, while taking advantage of the device's internal storage for backup in case the DVD becomes scratched or otherwise damaged. Many free software options let you transfer a DVD to your computer, and Apple's iTunes software can prepare the file for transfer to an iPod.
Instructions

1
Download DVD ripping software. Many program options are available as a free download. Handbrake, DVDSmith, Magic DVD Ripper and DVDFab all have free versions or a free trial period (see Resources). Save the installation file to your computer.
-
2
Run the installation file and allow the software to install on your hard drive.
-
-
3
Insert the DVD you wish to rip into your computer's DVD compatible disc drive.
-
4
Open your DVD ripping software. Choose a video format output and save the video to your hard drive. ITunes will work with most common video formats, including WMV, MOV and MPEG files. Some programs allow you to save directly to the iPod compatible MP4 format, allowing you skip the file conversion step.
-
5
Open iTunes. If iTunes is not installed on your computer, download it from the Apple website (see Resources).
-
6
Press "Ctl + O" and select the ripped movie file to add it to your iTunes library.
-
7
Select the ripped file in the "Movies" menu. Click the "Advanced" tab and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Wait for the conversion to complete.
-
8
Plug your iPod into your computer. If your device is set to automatically synchronize your movies with your iTunes library, wait for the transfer to finish, otherwise drag the file from the iTunes library to the iPod.
-
9
Access the movie on your iPod by navigating to the "Movies" section of the main menu.
