How to Reply on Twitter

Twitter is a popular social networking tool; however, some users may struggle with it. Twitter is quite different than MySpace or Facebook, particularly the user-message interface. If you've received a tweet from someone, you probably want to reply to them. Twitter allows you to do this with ease, as long as your total message is less than 140 characters.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the Twitter website (see "Resources.") Click on "Sign Up" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. A pop-up box appears. Type your username and password into the appropriate boxes and click "Sign In."

    • 2

Scroll down on the page using the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the screen. Browse through the tweets until you find the specific tweet that you want to reply to, then find the circular arrow directly beneath that tweet. Click on the arrow. This adds the "Reply" feature to your tweet box, which is located at the top of your Twitter page. You'll notice that the user's name is prefilled into the tweet box, along with the "@" symbol.

Type your message into the tweet box. Limit your message to 140 characters or less, and pay attention to the word count that appears in the lower right-hand corner. When you have finished composing your Twitter reply, click "Tweet" in the bottom right-hand corner of your tweet box.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also simply type "@" followed by the person's username. This changes the tweet box to a reply as well.
