How to Make Handmade Easter Cards

Greet family and friends with a handmade Easter card.

It takes extra time to make a homemade card, but with the power of your imagination, the design options can be endless. A homemade card is often appreciated more than one you buy at the store, because the person receiving the card knows how much effort you put into making it. Put your creativity to the test and send Easter cards your family and friends will cherish.

Things You'll Need

• White cardstock, 8 1/2-inch by 11-inch
• Paper cutter
• Pencil
• Cardboard, small piece
• Utility knife
• Pastel markers
• Black marker
• Glue
• Eraser
• White glitter
• Small pastel bow
• Envelope, 4 3/4 inches by 6 1/2 inches

Instructions

1. Fold the cardstock in half. Unfold. Center the fold line under the cutting edge of a paper cutter and cut the sheet of cardstock in half so you have two sheets. Set one half aside and work with the other half.

2. Fold the cardstock in half so the short edges align. Use a pencil to mark the front of the card with the letter A. Open the card. Mark the left-hand side of the card B and the right-hand side of the card C.

3. Use a pencil to draw the shape of an egg, 3 ½ inches long by 2 ½ inches wide, in the center of the page on the front of the card (side A), so the narrow end of the egg is on top. Slip a small piece of cardboard inside the card to act as a cutting guard. Use a knife to cut around the edge of the egg, cutting all but 1 inch on the left-hand side of the egg. Leave this section attached so it will act as a hinge for the window on the front of the card. Remove the cardboard.

4. Open the egg-window and, using the pencil, on the back of the egg-window (marked B), draw a circle with a smaller circle on top to form the body and head of a baby chick.

5. Use an orange marker to add two lines out the bottom of the chick's body for the legs. Draw three small lines off the bottom of the legs to form the feet.

6. Add a triangle off to one side of the top circle to form a beak. Use a black marker to add a dot in the small circle near the beak to form an eye. Color the body and head of the chick yellow and the beak orange.

7. Leave the egg-window open and lightly trace the cut-out oval shape onto the side marked C. Use a pencil to draft your Easter greeting inside the traced circle until the greeting looks the way you want it. Trace the greeting with pastel markers. Sign your name under the greeting.

8. Glue the edges of sides B and C together so you can only view the greeting and your signature by opening the egg-window.

9. Use your fanciest handwriting to write your name and the date near the bottom edge on the back of the card.

10. Use pastel markers to write "Happy Easter" on the top front of the card.

11. Use an eraser to remove all visible pencil marks on the card.

12. Dot the egg on the front of the card with drops of glue. Sprinkle white glitter over the glue. Allow to dry. Brush off excess glitter. Glue a bow to the bottom front of the card. Place your card in an envelope to send.
