How to Set up Dual Monitors on an Apple Computer

Just as with a Windows-based computer, you can configure your Apple Mac computer to use dual monitors. This has a number of benefits, especially when it comes to digital media production. Dual monitors double the amount of desktop space you have to work with, allowing you to perform different tasks in each window. Once your monitors are each connected to your computer (the second monitor connects the exact same way the first one did), you simply must configure each device in your operating system.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Apple" menu to expand it into a list of options.

    • 2

      Click "System Preferences."

    • 3

Click "Displays." One "Displays" configuration window will appear on each of your monitors.

    • 4

Use the "Display" tab in the window open on your first monitor to select a resolution for that particular unit. Once you've made your selection, move your cursor over to the second monitor and set the resolution on that particular unit.

    • 5

Use the "Arrangement" tab in the window on the first monitor to designate a primary and a secondary monitor. Select "Mirror Displays" to have each monitor display the same image. Leave this box unchecked if you want each monitor to display a different part of the same image. Once you have done this, dual monitors are properly set up on your Apple computer.
