Making Christmas costumes for kids requires no special skills.

The Christmas season is often accompanied by plays, concerts, recitals and lots of holiday parties. Many of these events will require some type of costume. Making a Christmas costume for your child can be a fun and fulfilling project you both will enjoy. The project does not need to take a lot of time or money and requires no hard-to-find supplies or advanced sewing skills. A reindeer and an angel costume are two of the simplest to create.

Things You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Brown stiff felt
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Brown plastic headband
  • Face paint
  • Brown sweatsuit
  • 3 gold pipe cleaners
  • White plastic headband
  • White sheet
  • Long gold scarf
  • Gold shimmer lotion

Instructions

  1. Reindeer Costume

    • 1

      Lightly draw two equal-sized antlers on the stiff felt with your pencil. Cut the antlers out.

      Wrap the base of one antler around the left side of brown plastic headband. Glue the antler to the to the plastic headband. Allow to dry.

      Repeat step two with the second antler on the right side of the headband.

      Paint freckles on your child's face with the face paint. Paint the tip of your child's nose.

      Put the brown sweat suit on your child. Place the headband on your child's head.

    Angel Costume

    • 6

      Form a circle with one of the pipe cleaners and twist the ends together. Twist the end of the second pipe cleaner onto one end of the circle. Twist the end of the third pipe cleaner onto the opposite end of the circle.

      Fold the two straight pipe cleaners downward, forming a halo. Wrap the ends of the two straight pipe cleaners around the plastic headband. Glue the pipe cleaners to the headband. Allow to dry.

      Cut a hole in the center of the sheet large enough for your child's head to fit through. Place the sheet over your child's head.

      Tie the gold scarf around your child's waist. Place the headband on your child's head. Put the shimmer lotion on your child's face, arms and hands.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply the glue in small dots to prevent the glue from bleeding onto the antlers and halo.

  • Skip the face paint and shimmer lotion if your child has sensitive skin.

  • For a shorter child, cut the base of the sheet off to prevent your child from tripping.
