How to Copy a CD Image to a Memory Stick

How to Copy a CD Image to a Memory Stick thumbnail
CDs can be backed up as disc image files.

Disc images are individual files that contain an exact copy of a disc, usually a CD. The files maintain the complete file structure and contents of the original disc and are used mainly to back-up information. Once created, disc image files can be saved to a computer system or memory stick for future access. There are many different applications available on the Internet for making images of discs. The time it takes to create an image file will depend on the amount of information on the disc.

Go to the ISO Master website (see Resources) and download either the Windows or Linux version of the software. Install and run the software to make a disc image from your CD. ISO Master will save the image as an ISO file, which can be easily transferred to a memory stick with adequate available space using Windows Explorer.

Visit the SlySoft website (see Resource) and download a copy of the CloneCD software. Install and run the application to start making a disc image file. CloneCD, like most other disc image applications, will produce and ISO file. Move it to your memory stick using Windows explorer when the process is complete.

    • 3

Go to the CDBurnerXP site (see Resources) and download, install and run the application. CDBurnerXP can create an ISO disc image file from a CD in your CD drive. Once complete, the file can be copied to your memory stick using Windows Explorer.
