How to Repair or Replace Boot.ini in Windows XP
The boot.ini file is one of the most important files in the Windows XP operating system because it is the file that tells the computer how to start up. If this file is corrupted or deleted, the computer cannot start up and you won't be able to access your operating system. However, you can perform a repair operation on the boot.ini file which repairs or replaces the file, depending on the damage to it, giving you a working computer once again.

Restart your computer, insert your XP disc and press any key when prompted by the computer to do so.

Press the "R" key to access the Recovery Console.

Log in to your operating system by typing "1," pressing "Enter," typing the computer's Administrative password and pressing "Enter" again.

Type "bootcfg /rebuild" and press "Enter" and then type "yes" and press "Enter" to confirm the repair of the boot.ini file.

Restart your computer, allowing it to boot up normally, and it boots into Windows successfully.
