How to Transfer Music From a Different iPod to Your Computer thumbnail
Transferring music from a different iPod to your computer is possible to complete in a few minutes.

You can transfer music from different iPods onto your computer. This is a way to, for instance, quickly get music from a friend's iPod onto your computer, making it possible to listen and use this music like you would the music you already have on your computer. Transferring music from different iPods to the same computer is not one of the iPod's regular functions, but it can be done. Be careful though, as one wrong click can delete the music from this iPod.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button, which is located in the bottom left corner of the computer screen.

    • 2

Click "My Documents," "My Music" or another location on your computer that is easy for you to find.

    • 3

Click the "File" drop-down menu and choose "New" and then "Folder." A new folder will now be created. Give it a name, such as "Corey's iPod music." You'll return to this later.

    • 4

Connect the different iPod to your computer using the USB cable. If iTunes is already open or it automatically pops up when an iPod is connected to your computer, you'll see a message that asks if you'd like to sync the iPod to iTunes. Click "No." If you click "Yes," this process matches the iPod to the music, videos and settings in iTunes. Thus, this would most likely delete a lot of the things on the different iPod you are using.

    • 5

Click the "Start" button at the bottom left corner of your computer screen.

    • 6

      Click "My Computer."

    • 7

Double-click the drive that belongs to the different iPod. This drive will typically have the owner's name, as well as the word "iPod."

    • 8

Click the "Tools" drop-down menu and pick "Folder Options," followed by the "View" tab. Click the circle located beside "Show hidden files and folders." Click "Apply" and then "OK." You'll now see a folder called "iPod_Control" appear.

    • 9

Double-click the "iPod_Control" folder, and then double-click the "Music" folder. Now you will be able to see several folders with names such as "F00" and "F04." These folders store the music from the iPod.

    • 10

Click the "Edit" drop-down menu and pick "Select All." The folders will now be highlighted. Click the "Edit" drop-down menu again and pick "Copy."

    • 11

Open the folder you created at the beginning of this process. Click the "Edit" drop-down menu and pick "Paste." The folders holding music from the iPod will now be pasted onto your computer. This could take several minutes. Wait until they are done pasting before you proceed.

    • 12

Click the "File" drop-down menu and pick "Properties." Click the "General" tab. Click the box next to "Hidden," so the box is now blank and unchecked. Click "Apply" and choose to apply it to all the folders and subfolders. The music from the different iPod is now on your computer, and is ready for you to use.
