Raise the jack plate, using the jack plate control, when you go into shallow water to raise the motor and the propeller.

When accelerating in shallow water, make sure the jack plate is all the way up. Apply full throttle and activate the jack plate control to lower the jack plate. By the time the engine is fully-lowered, the boat will be planing above the shallows.
