How to Repair an MSG File

An MSG file is mail message file used by the Outlook utility, containing email data. Repairing an MSG file is necessary when damage to the structure of the hard drive upon which it is contained has rendered the file corrupt or inaccessible. Accomplish this by repairing the drive containing the MSG file using the disk repair utility in the operating system, restoring the MSG file to working order.

      Click "Start," "Programs" and "Accessories."

      Right click "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator."

    • 3

      Type "chkdsk x: /r" and press "Enter," replacing "x" with the drive containing the MSG files.

    • 4

      Press "Y" to confirm and restart the computer. The drive containing the MSG files will be repaired, hence repairing the files.
