How to Find an Attorney in Illinois
Numerous attorneys work in all areas of Illinois in a variety of practice areas. When you find yourself in need of legal advice, it may be overwhelming to try to choose the right one. Martindale, a national directory of legal services, can help you locate an attorney in Illinois or any state in the country. The Illinois Bar Association maintains a database of detailed information about member attorneys through its lawyer finder service to further help you choose the proper attorney for your legal needs.

Go to the Martindale attorney directory home page.

Choose "People" in the "Search For" drop-down menu, then type in the name of the attorney or law firm if you are searching for information regarding a specific firm. If you are looking for attorneys in a certain geographic area or practicing in a certain law area, leave those fields blank.

Click "Select" next to the "Practice Area" drop-down menu. In the pop-up window, choose the area of the law in which you are interested under the "Main Area" column, then click the main practice area or any of the sub areas listed from the "Related Areas" column, which will appear under the "Selections" column. You can choose a maximum of 10 practice areas. Once you have made all of your selections, click "Select."

Click "Illinois" under the "State/Province" drop-down menu; if you want to restrict your search to a certain city in Illinois, type the name of the city in the "City" field. Click "Search."

Click the attorneys' names to view profiles of those attorneys, including their law firms, practice areas, office locations and any peer review or client rating information.

Go to the "Illinois Lawyer Finder" page on the Illinois Bar Association website.

Choose the "Field of Practice" which you are interested in finding an Illinois attorney from that drop-down menu then choose a county from the "Select a County" drop-down menu or type in the zip code of the location regarding which you are searching. Click "Submit."

Click the envelope icon next to an attorney's name to launch an email form or click the "www" icon to view that attorney's or his firm's website.

Click the attorney's name to view her contact information as well as information regarding the year she was admitted to the bar, law school attended, counties served, areas of practice worked and any professional association.

Call the Lawyer Finder service at 217-525-5297 or 800-922-8757 to obtain a referral to an Illinois attorney who will charge no more than $25 dollars for the first half-hour consult if you still need assistance selecting an attorney.

Tips & Warnings
To broaden your search on Martindale, do not choose any sub areas in the "Related Areas" column in the practice area selection pop-up window; choose up to 10 main areas of law.
On the Illinois Bar Association's Lawyer Finder website, you must choose a practice area and enter either a county or zip code.
