1
Disconnect the oven from the power supply or turn off the electric supply to the appliance. Speak to everyone in your home so they know that you are working on the oven and do not switch the power back on. Working on the oven with the power connected could be fatal.
-
2
Open the door of the oven and remove all of the bake racks from inside.
-
-
3
Turn on your flashlight so you can see what you are doing. Shine the light to the back of the oven and locate the bake element. Remove the two screws that hold the element in place, using a Phillips screwdriver.
-
4
Pull the element toward you enough so the wires are clearly visible. The cable may only be a few inches long, so don't tug it too hard. Tape the wires to the wall of the oven to prevent them from disappearing. Remove the wires from the terminal ends on each side of the oven. They will come off if you give them a firm tug with your thumb and forefinger.
-
5
Remove the element and dispose of it according to the laws in your state or country.
-
6
Pick up your new element and slide it into the oven. Untape the wires from the oven and reconnect them to the bake element. Twist the wires around the connectors and squeeze them tight with your thumb and forefinger.
-
7
Position the element securely in place. Screw the two screws back in with the screwdriver.
-
8
Put the oven racks back in place and turn on the oven. Let the elements heat up to burn off any residue before you use the oven. There maybe a bit of smoke and a strange smell the first time you heat the appliance, but don't worry as it will soon clear up.
