How to Make a Bean Bag Chair Pattern
Bean bag chairs provide casual and comfy seating. Children and teens especially love to sit in them while reading, watching TV or playing video games. They are pricey in a store or online, but they can easily be made with your favorite fabric. Making the bean bag chair pattern just requires a few measurements and large pieces of paper. Once the pattern is complete, is it time to put the bean bag chair together.
Instructions
-
Side Pattern Piece
-
1
Lay your paper on a table or hard floor.
-
2
Make a mark at the top with your pencil.
-
-
3
Measure 50 1/2 inches straight down from your first mark and make another mark.
-
4
Find the middle spot between the marks, and measure 10 1/2 inches on either side of that spot, making a mark in both place. If you were to draw lines between the marks, they would form a cross.
-
5
Draw a curved line from the top mark to the bottom mark, going through the mark on the left. The line should look like a large parenthesis. Repeat on the right side.
-
6
Measure 3 inches down from the top point and draw a small, shallow U-shaped line from the left pattern line to the right. The dip should be only 1 inch deep.
-
7
Measure 6 inches up from the bottom point and draw a small, shallow U-shaped line from the left pattern line to the right. The dip should be 1 1/2 inches deep.
-
8
Cut out the pattern piece, making sure to follow the U shapes and cutting off the points of the pattern.
Top Pattern Piece
-
9
Fold a large piece of paper in half.
-
10
Place a mark about halfway down the fold.
-
11
Place the end of the measuring tape on the mark.
-
12
Measure out 5 1/2 inches from the mark on the fold, and draw an arc from the folded mark.
-
13
Cut out the pattern and unfold the paper. It should be a large circle.
Bottom Pattern Piece
-
14
Fold a large piece of paper in half.
-
15
Make a mark halfway down the folded edge.
-
16
Place the measuring tape on the mark.
-
17
Measure 12 inches from the marked spot.
-
18
Draw an arc around the paper, 12 inches from the fold.
-
19
Cut out the circle.
-
20
Fold the circle in half.
-
21
Measure 1/2 inch from the fold on one side and draw a line parallel to the fold.
-
22
Cut along the line.
-
23
Throw away the smaller half of the circle and use the larger piece as the pattern piece. You will cut two pieces of fabric for this pattern piece, so that you can sew a zipper along the two straight edges. This will allow you to stuff the bean bag chair.

Tips & Warnings
For a child-sized chair, the side pattern measurements are 34 inches long by 16 inches wide. The top piece measures 4 1/2 inches for the arc, and the bottom piece measures 10 inches for the arc. Keep the 1/2-inch cutting line for the bottom piece.
