How to Avoid Pet Photo Eye

How to Avoid Pet Photo Eye thumbnail
Take photographs of your pet without the dreaded pet eye glow.

Pet eye is the equivalent of red eye, which shows up in even the best photos of your favorite dog or cat. Pet eye appears as an orange glow in your pet's eyes in a photo. It's not only distracting but can be downright creepy. Thankfully, there are a few minor camera adjustments and techniques that can prevent pet eye from ruining your photographs.

Instructions

    • 1

The easiest way to prevent pet eye is to turn off the flash on your camera. The flash reflects off your pet's eyes, creating the orange, distracting glow.

    • 2

If you must use your camera's flash, capture the image at an angle. If you're not directly in front of your pet or he's not looking directly at you, the flash won't bounce off his eyes.

    • 3

Move further away from your pet. The flash is less likely to bounce off your animal's eyes when you are further away.
