If you a not a citizen of Australia yet and you want to purchase property in the country, then you must be approved by the government. Exemptions to approval prior to purchasing property extend to citizens with a foreign spouse, an Australian citizen living abroad or a foreign national who holds a permanent resident visa or a special category visa. There are specific steps that must be followed in order to get approved to purchase property.

Download the FIRM application form from the Australian government website. Visit the site and read the information. You will be required to take specific steps depending upon which type of property you want to purchase; as well as how you intend to purchase the property. Completed forms may be submitted via email, postal service or fax.

Contact the National Association for Real Estate Profession in Australia. You may contact the association via telephone, email, postal service or website. This organization will be able to assist you in locating an agent and or real estate company in the state or territory you desire.
