How to Stop Print Spooler Service

The print spooler controls your print jobs.

The print spooler service is an important part of your operating system, but you might not even know it is there. The job of the print spooler is to keep track of all print jobs sent to the printer and make sure they all get processed. Knowing how to stop and start the print spooler allows you to control those print jobs more effectively.

  Log on to your computer and click the "Start" button. Choose "Control Panel" from the menu.

  Double-click the "Administrative Tools" icon, and then the "Services" icon. Click the "Classic View" option if the "Administrative Tools" option is not visible. This applies to Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

  Locate the "Print Spooler" service and right-click on it. Choose "Stop" to stop the print spooler service.
