Bed bugs are tiny bugs about a quarter of an inch long. They lay tiny eggs about the size of a poppy seed. The eggs hatch into a larvae that is about the size of a grain of rice. With bugs so tiny, you need to take special care to clean the small cracks and crevices throughout the room. Bed bugs can hide in so many places like behind loose wallpaper and in clocks. A female bed bug can lay up to 300 eggs, which will hatch in 10 days. It is important to get rid of the eggs, adults and larvae. Does this Spark an idea?

      Wash the bedding in as hot of water as the material will tolerate without shrinking. Wash any thing that has been on the bed, like stuffed toys or pillows. If you cannot wash the stuffed toys or pillows, place them in a large resealable plastic bag. Leave them in there for 3 to 4 weeks. Set the bag in a place where it will receive direct sunshine. Place the things in a dryer with the heat setting to 120 degrees F.

      Vacuum the bed, frame, carpeting, baseboards and furniture that are near the bed. Be as thorough as possible. Don’t forget to vacuum the drapes either. To do the frame, and along the baseboards, use the crevice tool that came with your vacuum.

      Spray with a special bedbug killer that has Permethrins or pyrethrins as one of the ingredients. Remember that pesticides are harmful to people and pets. If using pesticides, wear protective clothing, goggles and a respirator. Keep kids and pets away from the area for the length of time stated on label. Use according to label directions.
