How to Search for Background History
Background checks can vary a great deal depending upon the information desired. The most basic background checks can be performed for free via the Internet. Background history checks with more information are also available online; however, these are normally not free.

1
Obtain the information that is needed for the search. It is possible to verify that a background search is performed on the correct person if the proper name, date of birth and address (and any prior addresses) are known prior to the search. At a minimum, attempt to determine the state where the subject of a background search resides.
-
2
Visit an Internet website that specializes in background checks, such as intelius.com, ussearch.com, or peoplerecords.com. Choose one or more sites and begin a preliminary search by entering the name of the person being investigated, along with the state of residence.
-
-
3
Look at the list of names returned, and attempt to isolate the specific person being searched for. If one or more of the names is listed as living in the correct state of residence and as being the correct age, those are the names to focus a more in-depth search on.
-
4
Perform an address history search on the name of the person that information is required for. An address history search will cost money, unlike a preliminary search, but the information returned on this type of search will be far more in depth. An address history search will include the current known address, past addresses, date of birth or age, other names used including maiden names, names of possible neighbors, names of other people living at the same address as the person being searched and the approximate dates of residence for each address.
