How to Get Rid of Static in Your Hairbrush thumbnail
Static in brushes can result in a bad-hair day.

Static electricity is usually created when two or more objects repeatedly rub against each other. A good example of this is running a brush through hair. When this happens, the brush can hold a static charge that is passed on to the hair and ultimately causes it to stand on end. While static buildup is difficult to avoid, you can remove the static from the brush by using a few common household items. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the hairbrush against a metal object, such as a doorknob. This creates a small electrical shock that gets rid of the static electricity. This method is most effective if the brush is made of metal.

    • 2

Fill a spray bottle with water. Spritz the brush once or twice with the water to get rid of the static.

    • 3

Rub a dryer sheet against the hairbrush. Dryer sheets are made to reduce static in clothes, but they can also remove small amounts of static from other objects.
