Instructions

    • 1

Pick a new binder that fits your needs. You may be changing your old binder for various reasons and you should consider these reasons when buying a new binder. You may decide that you need a binder that is bigger to accommodate all of the extra paper. You may consider buying a heavy-duty binder because your old one broke or you may decide that your binder looks too old.

    • 2

Remove everything from the old binder. Keep all of the paperwork in the same order that it was in the old binder. If your old binder did not have dividers or if you are adding more papers into the binders, skim all of the papers and determine how you can divide the papers in the binder. Divide all of the papers by subject, type, project or another system that works best for your particular binder.

    • 3

Label the dividers using the system that you previously used to separate all of the papers. Depending on the dividers you used, write the divider name directly on the divider or print out the labels and place them on the dividers. Place all dividers into the binder.

    • 4

Organize all of the papers chronologically, if possible. Sort all of the papers according to the dividers that you picked. If a date is on all of the papers, organize all of the papers chronologically. The earliest date should be placed after the divider; the last paper in a section should have the latest date. If no date is given, place the papers in order of importance. The most important papers should be placed after the divider.

    • 5

Place all of the papers into the binder after their appropriate divider.
