How to Make a New Screen Name on Yahoo Messenger

If you use Yahoo Messenger to chat with friends or to participate in Yahoo chat rooms, you may want to add a screen name or alias to your Yahoo account. This is useful if you included personal information such as your name or location in your main Yahoo ID. Creating a new screen name to use on your Yahoo account will keep other users from seeing such information and using your main ID to email you. It takes little time to add a new screen name for Yahoo Messenger.

Instructions

1. Open Yahoo Messenger, sign in, and click "Messenger" from the menu at the top of Messenger. You can view and edit your Messenger settings and account here.

2. Click "My Account Info." Your Internet browser will open and you will be asked to enter your password. Enter your password and click "Sign In."

3. Look to the "Account Settings" section of the Account Information page and click "Manage your Yahoo Aliases." You can view and add Yahoo screen names or aliases here.

4. Click "Add an alias" to add a new screen name to use on your Yahoo Messenger account.

5. Enter the screen name you want to use in the form that opens and click "Save." The screen name will be added to your Yahoo account. Close the Internet browser and return to Yahoo Messenger. You can use the new screen name to send instant messages or to access Yahoo chat.
