How to Make & Print a Family Tree
The pursuit of your family history and making of your family tree is a wonderful project for both younger and older family members. Once you have gathered all your documents, pictures and other information, it is time to put it all together. Create a mini scrapbook to hand out out at reunions, turn in for a school project or display on a coffee table. You are only limited by your imagination.

Instructions

1
Gather all the information you have on your family's history. This includes any oral history, photos, family records, etc.
-
2
Scan all the photos and copies of vital records that you want to include. Store the scans together in a file for use later.
-
-
3
Decide how large you want your scrapbook to be. An 8.5 by 11 inch document is a standard size and will work well if you want to include any copies of birth certificates.
-
4
Choose a picture to put on the cover of your scrapbook. This could be a large group picture or one of your grandparents or great grandparents. You can also use a picture of a tree, since you are making a family tree scrapbook. If your family has a crest or coat of arms, that would make a nice cover, too. Insert the picture into a word processing document and add a title.
-
5
Download Family Tree Builder. This free family tree maker allows you to enter family information and create charts and reports with or without photos. You can select from a variety of backgrounds and styles. You also have the option of printing or saving as a jpeg or PDF.
-
6
Enter your family information into Family Tree Builder. Start with yourself and branch out from there. Add pictures if you have them. When you have entered everyone’s information to complete your family tree, create descendant charts for each family. Save as a jpeg to place into your word processing file or print it out directly from Family Tree Builder.
-
7
Put it all together. Print out your cover, charts, any additional photo pages and copies of documents. Collate the pages into order. Bind the pages together with brad clips found at any office supply or scrapbooking store.
