How to Word Couple's Shower Invitations

Your couple's shower invitation should let guests know all about the event.

Many modern-day bridal parties are choosing to include men in their pre-wedding celebrations. In addition to—or in lieu of—the traditional female-only bridal shower, brides and grooms are celebrating their upcoming nuptials with couple’s showers. Couple’s showers invitation should reflect the event and let guests know that both men and women should attend. Often, couple’s showers have a theme—either a gift-related theme like “Stock the Bar” or a general theme like “Mexican Fiesta.” Invitation wording can also reflect this theme.

Instructions

1. Compose a creative opening that identifies the shower theme. Use both the bride and groom’s names to reflect that the event is for men and women. For example, if you are hosting a “Stock the Bar” shower, try a clever poem like, “Kara and Jay are tying the knot. Help us stock their bar, shot by shot.” More traditional wording that works well for any couple’s shower is, “Join us for a couple’s shower honoring Lindsay and Justin.”

2. Include the date and time for the couple’s shower on the next line—for example, “Saturday, November 4, 2010, at 5 p.m.”

3. List the location of the couple’s shower, along with the address, on the following line. Couple’s showers can take place at the host’s home or at a festive location for both guys and gals, such as a local restaurant or pub. For example, this section of the invitation can identify the location by name and address—O’Neil’s Pub, 6724 Oak Street, Atlanta, Georgia.”

4. Ask guests to reply. You will want a head count for your event so that you know how much food and drink to have on hand, so include the name and contact information for the person collecting replies—for example, RSVP by May 15 to Katie Jones, 555-9827.

5. Add registry information. Even if your couple’s shower has a gift theme like “Stock the Bar,” guests might be able to find relevant gifts on the couple’s registry. State the registry information succinctly on the bottom of the invitation—“Will and Marie are registered at Bed, Bath and More.”

Tips & Warnings

• When addressing your couple’s shower invitations, list all guests’ names on the envelope—this helps explain that both women and men are invited. You can address single guests’ envelopes to their name “and Guest” so that they can bring a date to the soiree.
